Boat Program | MAR
Mar 12, 2025 5:30 PM - 9:00 PM
Boat Program | March 12th @ 5:30 PM – Note: earlier start this month

The March Boat Program is a double featuring an hour with a Puget Sound Marine Pilot, followed by an MMA sponsored session on Marina Fire Response

Part 1:  Puget Sound Marine Pilot Operations

We are extremely excited to present “Captain Kevin Riddle” as PYC’s March Boat Program guest speaker!

Captain Riddle has been with the US Coast Guard for over 29 years.  He has served on Coast Guard Cutters in Washington, Alaska, New England, Caribbean, and Pacific waters.  Captain Kevin Riddle became licensed as a Puget Sound Pilot in 2023 and will provide an overview of who the pilots are, what they do, and how they navigate some of the largest commercial ships in and out of ports throughout Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands.

Captain Riddle will also provide some very valuable insights on how we can safely share the waters with our commercial ships without endangering our boats and crews along with with safe navigation.

Their Mission: The Puget Sound Pilots is to ensure against the loss of lives, loss of and or damage to property and vessels. They are there to protect the Marine Environment by maintaining efficient and competent pilotage service on our Sate’s inland waters. Puget Sound Pilots are highly skilled, specially trained Ship Captains who board oil tankers, cargo vessels and cruise ships to guide them safely throughout the Puget Sound Waters. These professional Pilots are independent Professionals who work on behalf of the citizens of Washington State.

Please join us to honor Captain Kevin Riddle, to enjoy and to expand our knowledge of our waterways.

Part 2: Marina Fire Response

Marina Fire ... certainly something we do not want to experience anywhere we travel, but something we should have skills to address.  Following the Puget Sound Pilot presentation, MMA will sponsor a training session on fire response.  Come join us as we improve our safety skills!

Registration: No registration needed, just show up.

When:  March 12th, 2025

Amateur Radio Group - Morse Code History
Jun 11, 2025 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM
Maritime Radio History
Event Host - PYC Member Carlos Smith

Schedule:
6:00 PM: Social, ARG discussion and intro to those new to ARG
   6:30 PM: Presentation begins

Join the Amateur Radio Group Wednesday June 11th, for a second guest speaker presentation by Richard Dillman of the Maritime Radio Historical Society and KPH, the last remaining Morse code coast station.

Richard will deliver a Ken Burns style presentation on the KPH ship to shore Morse code service which operated for non stop for over 70 years.  This is the second presentation in the series and starts off where the first presentation in March ended.

KPH is the last remaining Morse code coast station and has been operating from Pt Reyes, California, since the early 1900s. KPH captures radio's magic and inspired some of us to get into radio communications.

We expect all club members will enjoy and find the stories fascinating regardless of background.  Many consider this second presentation more gripping than the first and is worth attending even if you couldn’t make the first.

You can get a sense of what excites many about KPH by exploring  https://www.radiomarine.org/ or by watching Richard talk about KPH in these short videos on YouTube:
-   https://youtu.be/GzN-D0yIkGQ  (~5 mins)

July 3|July 3
Jul 03, 2025 3:00 PM - 7:00 PM

The Fourth of July is, of course, a celebration of our Nation’s founding. Poulsbo Yacht Club’s celebration occurs on the 3rd.

This annual celebration includes music, festive decorations, club supplied food from the grill, games, and a boat parade. The venue spans both the indoor clubhouse and the outside deck. Members are free to invite guests and will often come and go as they please between the event and other celebrations on their boat, whether on the docks or on the water.
